Amphora Q&A

CTRM Technology

The architecture questions behind the software: what genuinely makes a CTRM cloud-native, what a good API should provide, and how a CTRM fits into the rest of a firm's technology stack via SAP and Power BI.

What makes a CTRM cloud-native?

A genuinely cloud-native CTRM is architected from the ground up to run in the cloud, typically as a single, multi-tenant or single-branch codebase that all clients run the same version of, rather than a legacy on-premise system that has simply been rehosted on cloud infrastructure.

The practical difference shows up in upgrades (cloud-native systems can roll out improvements to all clients automatically and frequently, rather than requiring a separate upgrade project per client), scalability (compute and storage scale with demand rather than being sized to a fixed server), and accessibility (the system is reachable securely from anywhere, without client-side infrastructure to maintain).

What should a CTRM API provide?

A CTRM's API should give programmatic access to the same core objects a user would work with in the interface: trade capture and amendment, positions and exposure, market data and pricing, and reference data, so other systems (ERP, risk, treasury, reporting tools) can read from and write to the CTRM without manual re-entry or file-based interfaces.

A well-built API is documented, versioned, and supports both real-time calls and bulk operations, and ideally follows modern standards (REST or similar) rather than proprietary, hard-to-integrate protocols, since the API is often what determines how easily a CTRM fits into the rest of a firm's technology stack.

How does a CTRM integrate with SAP?

CTRM-to-SAP integration typically covers the accounting and finance handoff: trades, invoices and settlements generated in the CTRM need to post as journal entries, accounts payable and receivable records, and cost postings in SAP, without duplicate manual entry.

This is usually achieved through the CTRM's API or a certified connector that maps CTRM trade and settlement data to SAP's finance and controlling modules, so the CTRM remains the operational system of record for trading while SAP remains the system of record for group-wide financial reporting and consolidation. See CTRM Integrations for how this fits alongside a CTRM's other system connections.

How does a CTRM integrate with Power BI?

Power BI integration lets trading, risk and finance teams build their own dashboards and reports directly on top of live CTRM data, rather than waiting for the vendor to build a specific report.

This is typically achieved through a direct database or API connection that Power BI can query, so positions, P&L, exposure and operational metrics refresh into existing Power BI dashboards without manual data exports, letting each team build the specific views they need on data that stays consistent with the CTRM's own reporting.

The Amphora Difference

A single branch, and an API to match

Amphora runs Symphony and Alchemy on a single-branch, cloud-native architecture with no forked code bases and no scripting, so every client is on the same version with free, regular, automated upgrades, and integrates via API to systems including SAP and Power BI.
